SilverHawk ATK with MEC Tech

SilverHawk® Above the Knee (ATK) Devices with MEC™ Technology Allow for 30% More Tissue Capture!

Driving Towards Single Insertion
The SilverHawk LS-M, MS-M and LX-M peripheral catheters are designed to reduce overall procedure time for physicians by maximizing the amount of plaque excised per insertion in arteries above the knee for patients with peripheral arterial disease (PAD). This design was created to improve the first generation SilverHawk below the knee (BTK) platforms in order to address the limited tissue capacity. The ultimate goal is to provide physicians with new devices – both BTK and ATK – that drive plaque excision procedures towards a single insertion.

Introducing MEC Technology in Above the Knee Devices

MEC Technology – or Micro Efficient Compression – is a novel advancement which features precision laser-drilled vent holes in the tip of the catheter. These micro vent holes release fluid pressure, providing more space for the collection of tissue in the tip of the device. The addition of MEC Technology to the LS-M, MS-M and LX-M devices has the potential to reduce overall procedure time by enabling physicians to increase tissue collection during plaque removal procedures in large vessels above the knee. In vitro bench test results performed by the company have demonstrated up to a 30% increase in tissue capture per insertion compared to the previous device.

MEC Technology - Micro Vent Holes

The LS-M, MS-M and LX-M are the first ATK devices with MEC Technology

The LS-M, MS-M and LX-M models are all packing devices designed for use in similar vasculature as their preceding models – LS, MS and LX respectively. They have a 110 cm (LS-M, MS-M) to 113 cm (LX-M) working length and are compatible with 7F/8F sheaths.* These collective devices comprise a complete tool set for treating above the knee, atherosclerotic peripheral arteries.

LS-M, MS-M and LX-M Testing In Vitro Shows 30% More Tissue Capture

Clinical Emulation Tissue Capture

To demonstrate the improved tissue capacity of the above the knee MEC Technology devices, a comparison was conducted to equivalent devices without MEC Technology. The tissue testing model is fixed porcine heart. Five devices each were evaluated with the endpoint being the full tissue capacity of the tip. Upon reaching full tissue capacity, each device was emptied and the amount of captured tissue weighed. For example, the data showed a mean of 92.38 mg of tissue removed by the LS-M/MS-M, versus a mean of 69.86 mg tissue removed by the LS/MS. Based on this in vitro bench testing, we expect the LS-M/MS-M to remove approximately 30% more tissue than the current LS/MS device at a comparable working range.

SilverHawk Device Selection with MEC Technology

Treating Above The Knee - SilverHawk LS-M, LX-M and MS-M
The SilverHawk LS-M, LX-M and MS-M devices are designed for use in the large and medium vessels above the knee.

Treating Below The Knee - SilverHawk SXL and EXL
The SilverHawk SXL and EXL are designed for use in small and extra small peripheral vessels below the knee. In addition to the use of MEC Technology, they provide greater tissue capture through an improved longer nosecone, which features a softer and more flexible tip and may enhance maneuverability through distal vessels. An updated torque shaft allows for consistent torqueing, tracking and device advancement.

* Sheath compatibility: Per the Instructions For Use, the medium and large vessel devices are compatible with 8F sheaths. A physician survey of device usage indicated 7F sheaths may have an Internal Diameter (ID) that will accommodate the crossing profile of the LX-M, LS-M and MS-M (non-flush tip devices).
